Nightlife Cal Leandros Rob Thurman Books

Yes I really liked the series a lot. So much I purchased all ten books after reading the first one. After all it says ten book series, right? WRONG!!~!! DO NOT BUY THESE BOOKS. This is an eleven book series according to the author, well the author has quit writing after the tenth book so guess what? Your stuck with ten books that there is no ending too. She said book eleven would be out in December of 2016, well it's 2018 and she has fallen of the planet. Penguin publishers will not answer any of my questions about her, I found a Facebook with the last entry from 2017 and it was something lame. But hey, if you like a cliff hanger series then go for it but you'll never get an ending, at least not yet. Don't know if she's in jail, smoking crack, drunk, or just plain tired of writing.

Nightlife Cal Leandros Rob Thurman Books Reviews

This book was very difficult to rate due to the fact that the story was spectacular, but the storytelling wasn't.

The story follows Cal, a half fae, who has been on the run from his monster side of the family since childhood. They are dark, sadistic, completely evil - and they have a wicked plan for Cal.

I absolutely loved this story - I loved the characters, the author's spin on old supernatural creatures, the tone of the book, the creativity of the tale and much more. The author did a fantastic job helping the reader visualize and connect with the good and bad guys. I also really loved that the monsters, while classics (vampires, trolls, fae), were given a unique personality and an innovative appearance by the author. Nothing cliche or overdone. It made the age-old supernatural elements feel fresh and new.

What I didn't like was how the story was told. It jumped from the past and present often, which isn't usually a problem, but was one with Nightlife because there was no break in the page, no signal that "hey, we're talking about the past now." It got to the point where it was confusing for a few moments before you realize you just switched. The same thing happened with new scenes, usually an author will begin a new chapter for a new scene in a book, but that wasn't the case here. So much took place and so much of the story jumped around within a few paragraphs that it made the wonderful story hard to follow at times.

Another issue I had was with the random and unnecessary parts in the book. There were many many pages that had absolutely nothing to do with the actual storyline. The parts made the book drag at times. An editor really should have cut them out.

If the story wasn't so fantastic and the characters so amazing this book would have gotten a much lower score due to the storytelling. But thanks to the story I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next.
I actually found this book because I was looking for stuff similar to the TV show Supernatural, which I've been in love with since season 1. I've tried a lot of different supernatural style books, but most are either super caught up in the whole love triangle thing or just crappy. This book, like others have said, has a lot of similarities to Supernatural initially, but it's quite different by the end. The basic premise though, two brothers, one fighting to save the other, is similar enough that if it weren't for the fact that this came out around the same time as Supernatural season 1 I'd have though one was based on the other.

Anyway, It's a fantastic book. The supernatural side of things is familiar, yet unique, with a bit of a literary twist -- Puck, Grendels, etc. I love that the novel focuses on the two brothers and their relationship. It does have a couple of potential romantic interests, but neither is really acted on much at all, which is a nice break from most supernatural books. I get tired of having to read over and over about how in love so and so is with someone else. Also, I like that it's narrated by a guy. I'm a girl, but I have a hard time finding female narrators that don't eventually get to be a bit grating with all the self-deprecation and naiveté that most authors seem to think all young women possess. I love that Cal is sarcastic and witty, lazy, and at times both confident and unsure of himself.

There's some roughness, and I give it five stars because I loved reading it, not because I think it's of the same quality as say Shakespeare or something. Overall though the writing is good, and I really recommend it (especially for any fellow SPN fans because you'll really see a lot of Sam and Dean's relationship in Cal and Niko's relationship). I will say one thing that I didn't necessarily love (at least initially) was a shift in voice that happens about 2/3rds of the way through the novel. Without giving anything away, it makes sense as to why it happens, but it is a bit jarring at least initially.
